Law Enforcement Officers representing Worcester County will be on the run on Monday June 3rd at 8am, taking part in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Relay for Special Olympics Maryland! The mission is to escort and protect the Special Olympics ‘Flame of Hope’ as it makes its way to toward the opening ceremony of the Summer Games at Towson University on June 7th-9th.

The event will kick off at 21st Street and the boardwalk where runners will run south to North Division Street, approximately 2 miles. We will gather for photographs and then bus to Center Drive in West Ocean City. From there, we will run East on Center Drive to Ocean City Elementary School, approximately 1 mile. We will then bus to the Athletic Complex in Berlin, MD. From there, we will run through downtown Berlin stopping at Worcester Preparatory School and Buckingham Elementary along the way, approximately 1 mile. The event will conclude at the Berlin Fire Department with entertainment and lunch.

You don’t have to be a runner to participate! Each leg will have support vehicles so you can run as little or as much as you want. You can even ride your bicycle! ALL PERSONNEL ARE WELCOME!!! Torch Run T-Shirts should be worn for this event and can be purchased in advance or the morning of the event at $15 each. Contact me at 443-523-5330.

Note: The run is designed like a parade with law enforcement vehicles from Worcester County, fire apparatus, K9 Units and the Ocean City Police Department Mounted Unit following behind the runners. Hogs and Heroes motorcycles are invited to line up in the procession as well.
